The 2013 Leaders

Northeast Florida Association of Realtors: Carol Zingone, Prudential Network Realty

The organization

NEFAR is a trade association of licensed Realtors and invited affiliate members in Duval, Clay, Putnam and Baker counties. It provides training, education programs and oversees the Multiple Listing Service.

NEFAR provides professional development, political advocacy, professional standards administration, communications, media relations, and promotional activities and exchange of information among its members. NEFAR serves as the voice for real estate in northeast Florida; providing extensive market statistical reports on a monthly basis to its members, media and the general public. NEFAR also serves the public through efforts to protect private property rights and community affairs programs.

What she'll do?

"My goal is to help support the roughly 5,000 members in the organization. We have an exciting year coming up, with the addition of the Young Professional's Network, and new faces chairing task forces and committees.

How was she selected?

Elected by the NEFAR membership.

2013?

"For many months now, the trends in Northeast Florida real estate sales have been increasing prices, sharply reduced inventory levels and homes selling more quickly than in the past couple of years particularly for homes priced below $200,000. Barring significant economic changes, or changes as a result of legislation or governmental intervention, we would expect these trends to continue for the near future. If inventory continues to drop rapidly, prices will tend to increase more rapidly to accommodate the supply and demand balance."

How to join

Individual real estate agents, real estate firms and affiliates can join NEFAR by filling out an application and paying a fee specific to their membership. Call 394-9494 for more information or visit www.nefar.com and click on the About NEFAR tab.

Northeast Florida Builders Association: Dennis Ginder, Landon Homes

The organization

The Northeast Florida Builders Association is a not-for-profit trade association for members of the construction industry and invited affiliates that serves the Northeast Florida area. NEFBA provides its members education, training, networking, financial benefits and representation in government and community affairs.

What he'll do

"My goal is to continue the strong tradition of leadership and continue to grow the largest local association in the state and one of the largest in the country by focusing on the membership and particularly the councils that do so many good things to support the association."

How he was selected

"I was asked to interview with the executive committee and several past presidents. From there, I was asked to serve on the executive committee as secretary/treasurer and then first vice president. It was an amazing experience to participate in the process and I am looking forward to the coming year."

2013?

"I believe that the industry is beginning to recover. It has been many years and we have all been fooled more than once that 'it' was over only to see that the tough times were still upon us. Permits in 2012 will exceed permits from 2011 by nearly 1,000 permits. We have not seen that kind of growth in more than five years and it is a welcome change. While I think we are all happy for the change in the right direction, there is no doubt that this new growth will present its own set of challenges and opportunities. One thing is for sure, I know that the members of our association and local industry will be there to meet the opportunities head on and make the best of the future."

How to join

Contact Clayton Bailey, NEFBA membership director, at CBailey@nefba.com, call 725-4355, ext. 224 or visit www.nefba.com to register online.

Mortgage Bankers Association of Jacksonville: Randy Galloway, Ameris Bank

The organization

It educates and lends legislative representation to mortgage professionals. MBA uses this platform to keep mortgage bankers informed on current issues, industry changes and promote the practice of the highest ethical standards.

What he'll do

"My top goal is to bring mortgage bankers and affiliates in the mortgage industry together to network, educate and focus on the issues that we face in our industry. We are truly stronger as a unified group. I want the voice of the mortgage bankers heard in the political arena from our local government to Washington. The more focused and educated we are and the more we develop relationships throughout our industry the more effective we will be."

How selected

"I was asked by our current president, Diane Ekberg, and approved by the MBA board to serve as her vice president in 2012/2013. The vice president then moves into the presidency the following year."

2013?

"I think we will continue to see the real estate industry grow. It has proven to continue to move forward in 2012 and I see no difference in 2013. New home starts and permits are up. With rates continuing to be so low I think we are positioned for continual growth. This is Florida and no matter what, folks still want to be here."

How to join

Visit www.mbaofjax.org and visit the "Join the MBA" tab. You can fill out the application online and pay a fee according to the type of membership you choose.

JAREB: Latoshia Hall, Powerhouse Realty

The organization

The National Association of Real Estate Brokers was formed in 1947 by African American real estate professionals out of a need to secure the right to equal housing opportunities regardless of color, race or creed. Their main focus is to ensure the availability of fair and equal housing as well as educate the consumer on homeownership.

What she'll do

"First and foremost I want to get the organization more active in the community as well as double our membership numbers by the end of my first year. NAREB is an excellent organization that has a powerful voice and once more real estate professionals learn more about us, I know we will grow the Jacksonville chapter."

How selected

The organization had nominations and she was selected as president.

2013?

"I think that even though the last quarter of 2012 was very promising with property values actually seeing an increase, I am not sure that we will continue to see that increase next year. Many banks and asset managers held on to a lot of inventory due to the elections and not that it is over, I am seeing more foreclosures hit the market some at values less than the competition ,therefore driving those values down as well. Overall I see 2013 as another year for buyers to capitalize off the lower property values and low interest rates."

How to join

Visit www.jareb.org and fill out a membership application. JAREB is for anyone that is a real estate professional or that is affiliated with real estate including lenders, home inspectors, title companies and more. Membership fees vary according to the type of membership chosen.

NAIOP Northeast Florida: Traci Jenks, CB Richard Ellis

The organization

Northeast Florida NAIOP serves the area's Commercial Real Estate market and fulfills three important roles: legislative voice, continuing education and networking and business opportunities.

What she'll do

"My goals are to increase the value of the organization to our members by providing the best networking opportunities to increase their business and continue to be the legislative voice of commercial real estate for owners and developers to advocate for policies that enhance the value of their property and our community.

"NAIOP provides unparalleled networking opportunities, educational programs, research on trends and innovations and strong legislative representation. NAIOP membership is the best investment you can make in your career if you are commercial real estate."

How she was selected

Elected by chapter members. "I have been involved in NAIOP for over 10 years and on the board for six years. I've been responsible for Public Relations, Government Affairs, Membership and Special Events for the chapter."

2013?

"I'm an office broker and have seen encouraging signs from companies who have expansion plans in Jacksonville. I see slow positive growth."

How to join

Visit www.naiopnefl.com for membership information and an application. Or you can call Carmel Buchanan, Chapter administrator, at 730-8075 for an application. Those interested can also go on the national website to complete an application www.naiop.org.

Sales and Marketing Council: Jim Doyle, Red Dot Marketing

The organization

The organization brings builders, developers, Realtors, lenders and marketing and sales professionals together in order to network and grow their businesses. "It is the largest SMC in Florida and has been recognized as the best SMC in the nation by the National Home Builders Association several times," said Doyle.

What he'll do

"My goal is to reenergize membership and grow participation," said Doyle. "The homebuilding and development industry is finally stabilizing and a recovery is gaining strength. Our theme for 2013 in 'Step Up' and we are excited about getting members more involved in SMC and continuing to help drive the real estate recovery."

How he was selected

He was elected by the membership. "Becoming the SMC chair is a minimum five-year leadership commitment progressing from joining the board through the positions of the executive committee," said Doyle.

2013?

"Traffic and sales have continued to grow incrementally over the past two years for all of our real estate related clients. I see that trend continuing to build in 2013 and beyond. Prices are stabilizing and beginning to increase around the state. As consumer confidence grows with an improving economy, it's important for the building industry to be ready at the sales and marketing level. We are preparing a strong calendar of programs for the membership in 2013 and looking for more members to 'Step Up' and get involved in committees and attend programs. It's a great way to network with other industry professionals, improve skills, and send a message to the public that the industry is healthy and prospering in Northeast Florida."

How to join

SMC is open to anyone interested in networking with area real estate and new home sales and marketing professionals. Membership in the Northeast Florida Builders Association is required to be eligible to join the SMC. Visit www.nefba.com and www.smcnefba.com to learn more information or contact Corey Fountain, SMC Director, at 725-4335.

The 8,000 members represent nearly every discipline within the industry and are located in 76 major markets across North America.

What she'll do

"My number one goal is to enhance member benefits through networking, programs and educational opportunities. We understand that there are a number of associations in our industry and the most important thing we can do as an association is to do what we do best, network and support the development of our members. We will kick off an exciting members-only educational series that will cover the development process from planning to leasing and property management. What he'll do

"My goal is to continue to strengthen our relationship with the local county government and building department. I also want to be a unifying presence in our industry as well as help promote and enhance our industry's reputation within the community. This can be accomplished by making sure the SJBC and its members remain active in charitable events, working with local high schools that offer construction programs to students and political action initiatives."
